Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts are located in Y Ffor, near Pwllheli on the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. We are ideally placed for exploring the beaches, mountains and coastal scenery of North Wales, while offering a peaceful rural retreat away from busy roads and crowds.
What makes Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts different?
Our idea of luxury is peace and quiet. The huts sit beside a lake in a private rural setting at the end of a long lane, with no passing traffic. Guests can enjoy beautiful views, dark skies, wildlife and the freedom to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Yes. Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is an adults-only retreat for guests aged 18 and over. This helps us maintain the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere that many of our guests value.

Are the shepherd huts suitable in winter?
Absolutely. Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts are open all year and are designed to be enjoyed in every season. The log burners, electric heating and cosy interiors make the huts a wonderful place to relax during the colder months, while winter often brings some of the most peaceful views across the lake and countryside.
THE SHEPHERD HUTS
How many huts do you have?
We have five individual shepherd huts: Joan, Susanna, Angharad, Marared and Elen. Each hut has its own character, private terrace and beautiful views over the lake and surrounding countryside.
How many people can stay in each hut?
Each shepherd hut sleeps one to two guests, making them ideal for solo travellers or couples looking for a peaceful getaway.
What facilities are included in the shepherd huts?

Do the huts have heating?
Yes. Every shepherd hut has both a wood burner and electric heating, making them warm and comfortable whatever the season.
Do the huts have hot tubs?
No. Our shepherd huts do not have hot tubs. Instead, we focus on the things we believe make a stay truly relaxing: peace, nature, privacy, beautiful surroundings and time away from everyday distractions.
Can I swim in the lake?
No. Our lake is a protected wildlife habitat and is home to herons, kingfishers, moorhens and many other species. It's a wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy nature, but swimming isn't permitted.
Do you allow BBQs?
Yes. Every shepherd hut has its own fire pit and BBQ, perfect for relaxed outdoor dining while enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain views.
Can I order extra logs and kindling?
Yes. Each hut includes a starter supply of logs, kindling and firelighters, usually enough for one or two evenings. Additional supplies are available for £5 and can be delivered directly to your hut.
ACCESSIBILITY
Are the huts accessible?
The huts have parking beside the accommodation, with a few steps up into each hut. Once inside, the accommodation is arranged on one level. Please read our Accessibility Statement and contact us if you have specific accessibility requirements and we will be happy to discuss whether we can accommodate your needs.
DOGS
Are Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts dog-friendly?
Yes. Dogs are welcome in Joan, Susanna and Angharad. We can accommodate one small or medium-sized dog per hut. Please let us know about your dog when booking so we can prepare for their stay.
Our site is secure with stock fencing and a cattle grid, providing a safe environment for guests and their dogs. For everyone’s comfort, dogs must be kept on a lead while on-site and must not be left unattended in or around the huts.
The surrounding countryside and nearby walking trails are perfect for exploring with your four-legged friend.
Are there places nearby for dog-friendly walks?
Absolutely. The Llŷn Peninsula is a wonderful destination for dogs, with miles of scenic footpaths, countryside walks and dog-friendly beaches to explore together.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Is there parking?
Yes. Each hut has parking close by for guests’ convenience.
Do you provide bedding and towels?
Yes. Fresh bed linen and towels are provided for every stay, so you can travel light. We simply ask that they are used inside the huts to help keep them clean and fresh for all guests.
Can I request fresh bedding during my stay?
Yes. If you're staying for five nights or more, we're happy to provide a complimentary change of bedding during your stay.
For stays of fewer than five nights, fresh bedding can be provided on request for an additional charge of £20.
What should I bring with me?
Most essentials are provided, so you can pack light. We recommend bringing suitable clothing and footwear for exploring the beautiful North Wales countryside, whatever the weather. For more ideas, take a look at our Top 10 Things to Bring blog before your stay.
Do you have WiFi?
No. We do not provide Wi-Fi because many guests choose Brook Cottage as a place to switch off and enjoy a slower pace of life. Mobile phone signal is generally available.
Do you have electric vehicle (EV) charging points?
We do not currently have electric vehicle charging points on-site. However, there are several EV charging points nearby, and details of local charging facilities are included in our guest welcome guide to help you plan your stay.
Are you open all year?
Yes. Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts are open throughout the year. Each season offers something different, from summer evenings beside the lake to cosy winter nights with the log burner.
What time is check-in and check-out
Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 10am.
A later check-out option is available on Sundays and may be possible on other days by prior arrangement, subject to availability. Full details are provided in our guest welcome guide.
Why do you ask for an estimated time of arrival (ETA)?
Your estimated arrival time helps us ensure everything is ready for your stay and allows us to welcome you personally.
It helps make your arrival as smooth and relaxed as possible.
Do you allow smoking?
No. Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the shepherd huts or in shared areas. This helps us maintain a clean, fresh and comfortable environment for everyone.
BOOKING AND GROUPS
How do I book a shepherd hut?
You can check availability and book directly through our online booking system. Booking direct gives you the best way to choose your preferred hut and dates.
Can I book all five shepherd huts together for a group stay?
Yes. All five shepherd huts can be booked together for relaxed gatherings of up to 10 adults (18+) as part of a family or friends’ getaway.
When you book all of our huts together, you will have exclusive access to the Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts site for your stay, allowing you and your guests to enjoy the lake, gardens and surroundings in complete privacy.
To help maintain the peaceful atmosphere that our guests value, we do not accept hen or stag parties or noisy group events.
Can I book a single night?
Our minimum stay is two nights, or three nights over Bank Holiday weekends. We find this gives guests time to truly relax, explore the area and make the most of their stay.

Can you recommend any local places to eat, shop and visit nearby?

Do you have a shop or restaurant onsite?
No. Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is a self-catering retreat, so there is no shop or restaurant on-site. Aldi is just a five-minute drive away for groceries and other essentials, and there are plenty of excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants nearby if you would like to eat out.
What is there to do in the area?
