ABOUT US
WELCOME TO OUR HOME
We’re Joss and Steve, the proud owners of Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts, where we share our days with our much‑loved rescue dog, Jake. Steve is half Welsh and for him, returning to Wales felt like a homecoming. For Joss, running a glamping site had been a long‑held dream, a vision of creating a place where people could slow down and feel held by the landscape.
We lived in the flat lands of Cambridgeshire but had both spent time in Wales, having been keen hikers and kayakers, and the moment we saw Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts, we fell in love. The previous owners had poured real craftsmanship and care into creating this little retreat, and we instantly recognised the thought, skill and design woven into every detail. It felt peaceful, grounded and quietly magical - somewhere we knew we wanted to be.
We’re honoured to be custodians of Brook Cottage, welcoming guests who value the same quiet, comfort and simplicity that drew us here. Our hope is that your time with us brings rest, warmth and memories that stay with you long after you leave.

CARING FOR THE LAND
Nature is at the heart of everything we do at Brook Cottage and looking after this landscape is one of the most meaningful parts of our work. Every day, we’re working to encourage biodiversity and create a place where wildlife can thrive.
We tend the lake with care, keeping it healthy for the birds, insects and animals that rely on it. Around the grounds, we’re building dead hedges to create natural habitats and safe corridors for small creatures, and we’re planting with pollinators in mind - choosing species that support bees, butterflies and other vital insects throughout the seasons.
We have plans to create a small orchard and expand our wildflower meadow, giving even more space for nature to flourish. These projects take time, but watching the land respond - seeing new life appear, hearing more birdsong, noticing the subtle shifts - is one of the greatest joys of being here.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING
Caring for this place goes hand in hand with caring for the planet. We’re committed to running Brook Cottage in a way that treads lightly, supports the landscape around us and protects the environment for the future.
We make considered choices in everything we do: from the eco‑friendly products we use in the huts to the way we manage waste, energy and water across the site. Our focus is on simple, practical steps that genuinely make a difference, rather than gestures that look good but achieve little.
Many of our sustainability efforts overlap with our work to support biodiversity: tending the lake, planting for pollinators, building natural habitats and expanding wild spaces. We’re also continuing to review and improve our practices as we grow, always looking for ways to reduce our impact and increase our positive contribution.

BEING PART OF THE COMMUNITY
For us, living here is about far more than running a business - it’s about becoming part of a thriving, welcoming community. The Llŷn has a strong sense of identity, shaped by its people, language and landscape, and we feel incredibly fortunate to call it home.
We work closely with local suppliers and craftspeople, choosing to support the makers, growers and small businesses that give this area its character. From the food and products we stock to the materials and expertise we rely on, we try to keep things as local as possible.
We’re also learning Welsh, not just as a gesture, but as a way of honouring the culture and connecting more deeply with the place we now belong to. Every conversation, every new word, every small step helps us feel more rooted here.

HONOURING THE HERITAGE OF THE LLYN
The Llŷn Peninsula has a deep sense of history, shaped by its stories, its language and the landscape that holds them. When we first arrived at Brook Cottage, one of the things that struck us most was how thoughtfully the previous owners had woven that heritage into the huts themselves.
Each hut is named after the wife and daughters of Llywelyn the Great, a gentle nod to the region’s medieval past and the powerful women threaded through its history. Their interiors were crafted with the landscape in mind: colours that reflect the mountains that frame Brook Cottage, slate‑inspired tones, soft sunset hues, natural textures and details rooted in the Llŷn - touches that keep us connected to the land.
This resonated deeply with our own love of place and our desire to honour the landscape we now call home. As custodians, we’re continuing to hold that intention with care: preserving the spirit the previous owners created while allowing the huts to evolve in ways that stay true to the character and quiet strength of the peninsula.
