Sustainability
We are fortunate to be located in a stunning corner of the Llyn Peninsula, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Our aim is to help guests experience this landscape with care and reverence. We are committed to protecting the environment, supporting our local community, and contributing positively to the planet. This policy outlines our approach to environmental, social, and economic sustainability across all aspects of our business.
We strive to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible through the following actions:
Environmental commitments
-
Water usage: We operate from our own natural water source, ensuring responsible use and protection of this vital resource.
-
Energy efficiency: We reduce our consumption of energy, water, and raw materials, and improve the efficiency of what we do use. Outdoor lighting is solar-powered and low-impact. All wood for log burners and fire pits is sourced from our own woodland or sustainable local suppliers. We are exploring the use of renewable energy sources for the future.
-
Laundry and cleaning: We use environmentally friendly laundry practices. All cleaning products are natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable.
-
Waste reduction and recycling: We recycle wherever possible and provide guidance to guests, with separate bins in each hut for general waste and recycling. We minimise single-use plastics and packaging.
-
Sustainable purchasing: We source guest supplies from local businesses to reduce transport emissions and support the local economy. We prioritise biodegradable, refillable, or reusable products.
-
Biodiversity and land stewardship: We actively support biodiversity through native planting, wild areas, and wildlife-friendly landscaping. We maintain and expand habitats for birds, pollinators, and other native species. Our tree planting and wildflower restoration plan encourages a broader range of insects and butterflies. We also care for our wildlife lake, home to a variety of native flora and fauna.
Social and community commitments
-
Local economy support: We champion local businesses by promoting nearby experiences, artisans, and food producers. We aim to source locally wherever possible and employ local providers for laundry, maintenance, landscaping, and tree surgery.
-
Guest engagement: We share sustainability tips and local environmental insights in our guest communications, helping visitors connect more deeply with the area.
Governance and continuous improvement commitments
-
Monitoring and reporting: We review sustainability practices annually and set measurable goals. We track energy, water, and waste metrics to inform improvements.
-
Transparency: We communicate our sustainability efforts openly and welcome feedback and collaboration to strengthen our impact.

Sustainability Tips for Guests
On site
-
Turn off heating and lights when not needed or when heading out. This reduces energy waste and helps our resident bats and insects thrive.

-
Use only the water you need and avoid leaving taps running for longer than necessary.
-
Our spring-fed water is filtered and UV-treated - safe to drink and delicious. No need for plastic bottles!

-
We use a septic tank that breaks down waste in an environmentally sensitive way. Please only flush toilet paper and natural waste. All other items should go in the bin provided.
-
Please rinse containers before recycling and avoid putting food waste or contaminated items in the recycling bin.
Out and about
-
Stick to designated footpaths and leave gates as you find them (open or closed).

-
Avoid approaching or feeding livestock.
-
Keep dogs on leads when walking through fields or grazing areas.

-
Adopt a “leave no trace” ethos and dispose of rubbish responsibly.
-
Drive carefully on narrow country lanes, especially when passing walkers, cyclists, or horse riders.
-
Familiarise yourself with the Countryside Code.
-
The Llyn Peninsula has an extensive and affordable bus network. Many attractions, towns, beaches, and hiking areas are easily accessible by bus.
Shop locally
-
Where you can, choose local products and services - they offer a true taste of the area and support our communities.

-
Gwynedd boasts fantastic producers of food and drink, including farms, dairies, breweries, and even distilleries.

-
Explore independent shops in nearby towns and villages: butchers, delis, farm shops, and “milk sheds” all offer fresh, local and seasonal options.

-
Rather than bringing excess food, shop locally in Pwllheli - most essentials are available within a few miles of our site.

-
Bring your own reusable shopping bags and containers to help reduce plastic waste; they're also handy for local markets.
