ACCESSIBILITY
We are committed to making our shepherd hut stays as welcoming and comfortable as possible for all guests. This statement aims to give clear, accurate information about our facilities so you can decide whether Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is suitable for your needs.
Overview
Our five luxury shepherd huts are designed for single travellers or couples and are positioned several metres apart, overlooking our private wildlife lake. Access to and around the huts is via gravelled paths, which may be uneven in places and can be affected by weather conditions.
Due to the bespoke design and rural nature of our accommodation, the huts are not generally suitable for wheelchair users. For guests with some mobility considerations who do not require wheelchair access, Joan is our most spacious hut, with a low bed and a larger shower.
Arriving
Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is located just outside the village of Y Ffor, near Pwllheli, at the end of a single‑track country lane approximately one mile from the main road. The lane is used by farm vehicles, livestock and horse riders, so drivers should proceed slowly and be prepared to reverse to a passing place.
On arrival, please drive slowly on the track (maximum speed 5mph) and be mindful of other guests. We live in the cottage at the end of the property - please call or message us when you arrive and we will come out to meet you and guide you to your hut.
Parking
Each hut has a designated parking space directly outside or opposite the hut. Surfaces are level and made of either concrete or gravel.
Access to the huts
Paths from the parking spaces to the huts are mainly concrete or gravel. They may include slight inclines, uneven areas, and can become muddy or slippery in wet weather.
All huts are raised off the ground and accessed via a small set of steps with a fixed handrail, leading to a deck or porch and then a threshold into the hut. Decking and steps may be slippery when wet.
Doors open outwards. Joan has a single door; the other huts have double doors. Each external door has an approximate 75mm raised threshold.
Access inside the huts
The doorway leads directly into the open‑plan living area. The interior is on one level with wooden flooring throughout.
Each hut includes:
-
A double bed with storage underneath
-
A fully equipped kitchen (oven, hob, fridge freezer, sink, kettle, toaster, cafetiere, crockery, cutlery and cookware)
-
A dining/seating area with table and chairs
-
Instant hot water via an electric boiler
-
Lighting and plug sockets throughout
-
Heating via a log burner and a heated towel rail in the bathroom (a plug‑in heater is also provided)
There is no TV or Wi‑Fi, but most networks have good 4G coverage.
Bed access
All beds are compact doubles and are accessible from one side only. In Angharad, Marared and Elen, the beds are elevated; a step stool is provided.
Bathrooms
Each hut has a compact en‑suite bathroom with a shower, toilet, hand basin and vanity unit, accessed through a 740mm‑wide door. The showers have a small lip/step into the tray.
Outside space
Each hut has a private flat gravelled area with outdoor seating and firepit / BBQ.
Safety features
-
Smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in every hut
-
A small fire extinguisher and fire blanket in each kitchen
-
Four larger fire extinguishers and a fire assembly point with a hand‑crank alarm located halfway down the drive
-
Motion‑sensor solar lighting at each hut and parking space and on the bridge across the lake
-
A head torch provided in each hut for additional visibility outdoors or in the event of a power cut
The grounds
The huts are set around a wildlife lake on a private three‑acre site. The ground is mostly flat with a gentle incline towards the lake. There are no barriers around the lake.
There is a small wooden jetty and a wooden bridge with a rope handrail. Grass around the far side of the lake can be wet or boggy depending on the weather; suitable footwear is recommended.
Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is located in a rural dark‑skies area, where natural light levels are low at night and visibility can be limited. Solar lighting is positioned around key areas such as the huts, parking spaces and the bridge, but guests should be aware that the wider site remains naturally dark.
Visual and hearing impairments
Natural light levels vary throughout the day. All huts have internal lighting.
We do not currently offer specific adaptations for visual or hearing impairments.
Assistance dogs are welcome in Joan and Angharad - please let us know at the time of booking.
