Glamping is all about blending the freedom of the great outdoors with the comfort and charm of luxury living. To help you make the most of your stay at Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts, here’s our handpicked list of essentials to pack for a truly memorable escape:
1. Comfortable clothing for layering
You know the phrase, "there's no such thing as bad weather... only the wrong clothing"? Well, if you’ve ever spent any time in Wales before, you’ll know the weather likes to keep you on your toes: sunshine one minute, sea mist the next. Pack layers that you can pile on or peel off: think breathable, lightweight tops for daytime walks, cosy jumpers for evenings by the fire, and waterproofs for those spontaneous coastal walks. Sturdy footwear is also a must for exploring the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula.
2. Outdoor essentials
We recommend bringing a small day bag to make it easy to head out on local adventures, or a roomier rucksack if you're planning on a day hike. Add a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat (woolly or wide-brimmed, depending on the season). These basics will keep you comfortable whether you're exploring coastal paths, castle ruins, or tucked into a pub garden.
3. A good book (or two, or three…)
There’s something about glamping that invites slower moments. A good book - whether it’s a favourite novel that you've read a dozen times or a page-turning thriller - fits perfectly into the rhythm of the retreat. Read by the lake, in bed with a cuppa, or beside the fire as the evening settles in.

4. Snacks and drinks
While we always encourage guests to sample the brilliant and varied local produce, it’s nice to have a few familiar favourites on hand. A bottle of wine, your go-to chocolate bar, or a stash of fruit and nut mix can make those quiet moments feel even more indulgent. Perfect for a sunset picnic or a rainy afternoon indoors.
5. Board games or playing cards
Before screens and streaming were a thing, evenings were spent around a table with a game, a drink and a bit of friendly competition. Whether it's a classic like Scrabble or a quick round of cards, a simple game is perfect for winding down after a day of exploring. They spark conversation, laughter, and that lovely feeling of being fully present - with no notifications in sight.
6. Your dog’s essentials
If your four-legged friend is joining you, don’t forget their creature comforts: bed, lead, favourite toy, and a towel for muddy paws. They’ll love the freedom of the outdoors - and you’ll love knowing they’re just as relaxed and welcome as you are.
7. Binoculars for wildlife spotting
Brook Cottage is home to all sorts of wildlife - kingfishers darting across the lake, herons standing sentry, foxes slipping through the hedgerows. A pair of binoculars will be a small addition to your bag but opens up a whole new world of nature-watching.
8. A camera or sketchbook
Whether you’re snapping the morning mist over the fields or sketching the curve of the coastline, bringing something to capture the view helps you hold onto the magic. It’s not about perfection - just noticing the beauty and keeping a piece of it with you to preserve your favourite moments long after your stay.

9. A relaxed mindset
This one’s essential. Let go of the rush, embrace the quiet, and give yourself permission to truly unwind. Brook Cottage is designed for slowing down and soaking it all in.
10. A sense of curiosity
Come with an open heart and a spirit of discovery. Whether it’s trying a new local delicacy, learning a few Welsh phrases, or simply noticing the birdsong at dawn, the little moments often become the most treasured.
And if you happen to forget something, don’t worry - chances are we’ve got one you can borrow, or you’ll find it easily in one of the many lovely local shops nearby.
Whether you’re here to switch off, soak up the scenery, or simply enjoy a slower pace, packing these few essentials will help you settle in and make the most of your time at Brook Cottage. We can’t wait to welcome you!
